About the City

Dublin

Founded by the Vikings more than 1,000 years ago, today’s Dublin is both an ancient city and home to Europe's youngest population. Ireland’s capital city is also an important commercial and economic center, making it the ideal place to gain hands-on experience through internships, service learning, and volunteering. See centuries of British influence as you explore Dublin’s elegant Georgian squares, spacious parks, and impressive public buildings. Live where generations of famous Irish playwrights, writers, musicians, and singers have found inspiration. Get to know the city’s modern-day mix of recent immigrants from around the world, all set in the rich context of Irish culture. When you study abroad, the opportunities to immerse into Dublin’s unique mix of old and new are endless.

About the Country

Ireland

Spend a semester, a summer, or a year exploring the misty Emerald Isle. Home to James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, Oscar Wilde, Bono, and Liam Neeson, Ireland has long been known for its creative residents, from artists and musicians to authors and playwrights. Ireland is a study in contrasts; where else can you visit a prehistoric tomb, see a 9th century manuscript, take in a GAA football match, and enjoy a pint at Davy Byrne’s pub, all in the same day? While studying abroad in Ireland, you can give back to your host community by volunteering, visit the stunning Cliffs of Moher, learn to speak Irish Gaelic, and immerse into Irish life and culture.

Local Highlights

Iveagh Gardens

These beautiful public gardens in the center of Dublin offer an oasis of peace and tranquility in the midst of the city.

Blessington Basin

Often regarded as Dublin’s secret garden, Blessington Basin is conveniently close to the city center and student housing. Much of the park is taken up by a large lake and fountain, both unusual features for a Dublin park.

Cake Café on Camden Street

The Cake Café's leafy courtyard is a peaceful oasis in the city center. Relax over sugar-dusted sponges, lemon slices, the most excellent coffee, glasses of prosecco, baked egg and soldiers, or that infamous Irish treat, beans on toast.

Honest to Goodness Café

Located across the street from the CEA Center, this café offers excellent and modestly priced sandwiches, as well as hot and cold dishes in a busy (but friendly) environment.

Cliff Hike from Bray to Greystones

One of the highlights of walking in County Wicklow is this well-maintained, 4.3-mile walk that leads you from Bray to Greystones along the scenic coast. Those spectacular ocean views and sightings of marine wildlife along the way are sure to help you work up an appetite, so grab a bite in Greystones before jumping on light rail (DART) for your easy return trip to Dublin.

Picture Yourself Here.

If you could go anywhere, where would you choose?

Can't decide? Don't worry. We still love you. Check as many as you like. Still not sure? That's OK. We would totally have a hard time too. Just check 'I don't know yet'.
