Designed for all levels of Spanish language ability, this versatile program allows you to choose electives, taught in English and Spanish that mesh with your interests. In the semester, arrive two weeks early for the Early Start option and hone your Spanish proficiency. Semester students take classes at the CEA Buenos Aires Center and have the option of selecting elective courses at Universidad Austral, our local partner institution. During the summer, you can take courses at Austral or at the CEA Buenos Aires Center. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the region’s history, culture, and politics in an interactive academic setting, then this program is for you.
Take courses at one of the top ten universities in Latin America and top private universities in Argentina, Universidad Austral . Universidad Austral’s IAE Business School holds accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. CEA students will take course at Austral’s Buenos Aires campus, conveniently located a short walking distance from the CEA Buenos Aires Center.
The CEA Buenos Aires Center turns the city into your classroom. Choose courses in liberal arts, social sciences, and international business, all taught in English and Spanish, and designed to take advantage of the city’s rich history, culture, and political environment. Enjoy courses that best meet your academic, personal, and career interests as you explore all the city offers. Please note that coursework for the Virtual Internship program will take place remotely.
When you study abroad in Buenos Aires, you can choose CEA housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.
Please note that housing is not included in Virtual Internship programs.
Program Structure
Choose to take courses at both the CEA Buenos Aires Center and Universidad Austral, our partner institution, or take all your courses at CEA Buenos Aires Center.
By selecting our CEA and Austral Hybrid program, you’ll enroll in 3-4 CEA elective courses, which may include a Spanish language course and 1-2 Austral elective courses. You also have the option to enroll in up to 2 CEA virtual courses.
By selecting our CEA only program, you choose to take all courses at the CEA Buenos Aires Center. You’ll enroll in 3-5 CEA elective courses, with the option to add up to one language or culture course. You also have the option to enroll in up to 2 CEA virtual courses.
Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. If you choose the Early Start option, you’ll enroll in an additional language course that meets for 45 contact hours/3 credits.
You may earn 12-15 credits (up to 225 contact hours); with the Early Start option, you may earn up to 18 credits (up to 270 contact hours).
Classes meet 1-3 times per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays. The Early Start language course meets Monday-Thursday for a total of 22.5 hours per week.
CEA virtual courses are taught in English using an online Learning Management System. You are expected to be an active participant in online forums, in addition to completing your regular readings, videos and homework. You can expect a blend of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (at your own pace) learning approaches that provide individual attention and flexibility for your learning style. Engaging in your “own way” gives you an opportunity to showcase your engagement in any topic or assignment while being part of an online global learning community.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take a language placement exam. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Argentina. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

A World Heritage Site, Colonia was founded by the Portuguese in 1680. The historic quarter still captures the look and feel of the colonial era in Latin America. You’ll travel by ferry across the River Plate from Buenos Aires to explore this charming town’s cobbled streets leading to old lighthouses, inns, restaurants, and its original bullfighting ring. You’ll also enjoy a traditional lunch during your time in Uruguay.
