Experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom are plentiful and bring lessons to life, exposing you to new perspectives and starting you on your journey toward global citizenship.

When you study abroad in Florence, you can choose CEA Housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.

Program Structure

CEA’s summer internship program includes an academic seminar and an internship placement. Your internship work schedule may vary depending on industry standards for your career field and will be determined after you arrive.

The part-time internship option includes a 22-hour seminar and you'll spend 120 hours at your internship placement over 8 weeks. Together, your seminar and internship placement are worth 3 credits. The full-time internship option includes a 32-hour seminar and 240 hours at your internship placement over 8 weeks. The full-time internship program is comprised of a weekly seminar and career development portfolio project. Together, the academic component and internship placement are worth 6 credits.

Prior to submitting your application, you will select the internship option that works best for you. We strongly recommended that you apply as soon as possible. Internship positions are selective; students who demonstrate both professionalism and commitment throughout the process are most successful in securing placements.

The placement process involves three video interviews: a screening interview with your Internship Specialist, a job placement interview with your on-site internship coordinator, and a final interview with your host site supervisor. The host site retains the final decision regarding placements, so it’s important that your interviews reflect your maturity, adaptability, curiosity, and commitment to both your career interests and the host organization. Upon successfully completing your on-site placement coordinator interview, CEA guarantees you a placement based on the personal, professional, and cross-cultural goals reflected in your interview. All placements will be secured two weeks prior to arrival.

Upon placement, you'll automatically be enrolled in your internship course.

If you have confirmed an internship placement in Florence through independent contacts, we can also support you in securing important logistics such as visas, housing, and credit. Contact an admissions counselor for more details.
