Set on the downtown campus of our partner institution, the International School of Business, the CEA Dublin Center has a focus on active learning that takes you out of the classroom and into the city, where you’ll enjoy first-hand encounters with local culture. This compelling, interactive learning environment offers courses in Liberal Arts and Business characterized by global perspective, small class sizes, and experienced faculty. Please note that coursework for the Virtual Internship program will take place remotely.

When you study abroad in Dublin, you can choose standard CEA housing—in a student residence apartment or homestay—or arrange your own independent housing. Assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.

Please note that housing is not included in Virtual Internship programs.

Program Structure

CEA’s internship program includes a personalized internship placement and a flipped classroom-style online academic course. Your internship work schedule may vary depending on industry standards for your career field and will be determined after you arrive.

Multicultural Workplace Internship Course
The required multicultural workplace course has been designed to help you make the most of your internship and launch your transition to professional with the refined and strengthened career skills employers are craving.  The course features one hour of face-to-face coaching sessions per week during your internship and includes additional self-directed course content, activities and assignments equivalent to about 30-40 hours total. You will automatically be enrolled in the multicultural workplace course upon acceptance of your internship placement.

Credit Options
The internship course is a variable credit course, providing you the flexibility to earn between 3-6 semester credits for your internship. The 3 credit internship option includes the required online hybrid course and a minimum of 120 hours at your internship placement. For each additional 40 hours that you work at your internship placement, you may choose to earn 1 additional credit for a per credit fee. Earning additional credits are not required. The credits align to internship hours as follows:

  • 3 credits: minimum 120 placement hours + internship course
  • 4 credits: minimum 160 placement hours + internship course
  • 5 credits: minimum 200 placement hours + internship course
  • 6 credits: minimum 240 placement hours + internship course

You will identify the credit option that works best for you during the placement process. We strongly recommended that you apply as soon as possible. Internship positions are selective; students who demonstrate both professionalism and commitment throughout the process are most successful in securing placements.

Career Coaching & Placement Process
Once you’ve submitted your application, your career development adventure will begin! The placement process is more than just securing an internship placement.  You will engage in a career exploration and coaching journey with your internship coach to help you to identify your ideal professional pathway.  During this time, you will receive 7-10 hours of professional career coaching via video, email and workshops.

You will also engage in additional interviews with our in-country internship coordinator and your potential host site supervisor.  The host site retains the final decision regarding placements, so it’s important that your interviews reflect your maturity, adaptability, curiosity, and commitment to both your career interests and the host organization.

Timeline Guarantee
Upon successfully completing your in-country internship coordinator interview, CEA guarantees you a placement that will support the personal, professional, and cross-cultural learning objectives you have identified in your career coaching process. All placements will be secured two weeks prior to arrival.

If you have confirmed an internship placement through independent contacts, we can also support you in securing important logistics such as visas, housing, and credit. Contact an admissions counselor for more details.

Excursions

Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.

Galway, Connemara, and the Aran Islands

Galway, Connemara, and the Aran Islands

Relax as a private bus takes you and your fellow students across Ireland, from east to west, to the Cliffs of Moher, a spectacular vista of coastline and dramatic rock face. You’ll continue to Galway, the country’s fourth largest city and considered by many to be the cultural capital of Ireland. Enjoy the spectacular sunset over Galway Bay as you discover Galway’s charmingly narrow pedestrian streets. The next day, you’ll depart for Connemara, home to beautiful and rugged landscapes where the Gaelic language is still spoken. We’ll take a ferry to the Aran Islands, where you’ll experience a link with a time long passed. Explore Dun Aengus, a fort that dates back to the Iron Age, before returning to Galway to experience live traditional music in local pubs.

Kerry

Kerry

Kerry is known as “The Kingdom” for good reason. Home to some of the most magnificent scenery in Ireland, from the gorgeous Killarney National Park to the jaw-dropping beauty of the Dingle Peninsula, we’ll venture off the typical bus tour routes so you can experience these places in a unique fashion, such as an early morning horse ride through the park and a (gentle) bike ride to Muckross House and Abbey. You’ll learn about the park’s flora and fauna, as well as the lives of the Kerry Chieftains that once resided there. No introduction to Kerry would be complete without a visit to Fungi the Dolphin; local fishermen will take you out to sea to meet Dingle’s biggest celebrity and learn about his Atlantic home. Enjoy a tasty lunch under the canopy of trees at Torc Waterfall and mingle with locals while experiencing the nightlife of Killarney town. The trip to Kerry offers a delicious combination of action, history and nature that is sure to leave you spellbound.

Glendalough and Powerscourt Gardens

Glendalough and Powerscourt Gardens

During this day trip, a private bus takes you to County Wicklow and Glendalough, the site of an old Irish monastery founded by St Kevin. Explore this scenic setting in the Wicklow Mountains in a valley between two lakes (“Gleann da loch”) and take a tour of the site. This classic example of an Irish monastery dates back to a golden era when Ireland was referred to as the “island of saints and scholars.” On the way back to Dublin via the coast road, we’ll stop at Bray, one of Ireland’s favorite seaside resorts.

Belfast

Belfast

Travel north by private coach to Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. Once battered by the “Troubles” between Catholics and Protestants, since 1998’s Good Friday Agreement, Belfast enjoys the hustle and bustle of any major city with its shops, bars, and restaurants full of life and activity. As a reminder of the past, we’ll visit “Loyalist” and “Republican” quarters of the city to view colorful murals that depict the bitterness of a divided community.
