Program Notes

Spring 2021:
Courses at the University of Belgrano (UB) will be offered exclusively online for the first month of the semester (including early start). At this time, it is not confirmed whether classes will then resume in person on UB’s campus or continue online for the rest of the semester. We will update the information once we learn about UB’s decision.

Program Structure

Fall semester students enroll in two 7-week courses, for a total of up to 12 credits (240 contact hours) over the semester. Spring semester students enroll in a 4-week course that meets for 120 contact hours/6 credits, then in an 7-week course that meets for 120 contact hours/6 credits. You may earn up to 12 credits (up to 240 contact hours) over the semester.

Fall semester courses meet 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday. Spring semester courses meet 5 hours per day, Monday-Friday for the first 4-week course, then meet 3 hours per day, Monday-Friday, for the second 7-week course. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.

You’ll take a language placement test prior to your departure to Buenos Aires and will have an opportunity to re-test upon arrival. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability and the results of your language placement test. If you enroll in consecutive sessions during the summer, you’ll have the opportunity to re-test your language level at the end of each session, and may move into a higher level. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Argentina. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

A World Heritage Site, Colonia was founded by the Portuguese in 1680. The historic quarter still captures the look and feel of the colonial era in Latin America. You’ll travel by ferry across the River Plate from Buenos Aires to explore this charming town’s cobbled streets leading to old lighthouses, inns, restaurants, and its original bullfighting ring. You’ll also enjoy a traditional lunch during your time in Uruguay.

Iguazú Falls (optional)

Spanning three countries, Iguazu Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a popular destination. Thousands travel to Iguazu Falls every year to marvel at the Garganta del Diablo, a U-shaped cascade that is 269 feet tall and almost 2,300 feet long. You'll enjoy a full-day excursion to Iguazu National Park.

This excursion is optional, for an additional fee. Students need to sign up for this excursion through their myCEA Account by the withdrawal date for their program.
