About the Program

Harness your entrepreneurial spirit in a city that is home to numerous start-up companies, is identified as the main tech city in southern Europe, and ranks among the top 10 European cities for digital entrepreneurship – Barcelona. Through curriculum at CEA, you will gain many of the skills and concepts needed to become a successful entrepreneur – design thinking, business planning, financial planning, negotiation, marketing, leadership, ethics and more. More importantly, CEA courses provide you with hands-on opportunities to interact with and learn from the local business community, particularly those leading local and global start-ups. If you’re feeling extra motivated, you can add a professional internship with an entrepreneurial-focused placement. Courses are taught in English, but Spanish language courses are available for every level of ability.

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia, an independent, state-supported institution, is known for its commitment to the region’s economic and social development, as well as a focus on multi-lingual training. The campus is just a short metro ride from the CEA Barcelona Center.
Located on the Plaza Catalunya in the heart of the city, the CEA Barcelona Center offers courses in a range of subjects, taught in English and Spanish. Learning takes place both in and out of the classroom, with instructors taking full advantage of Barcelona’s many notable sites and attractions.

When you study abroad in Barcelona, you can choose CEA housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.

Program Structure

Enroll in the core course: Entrepreneurship: The Art of Creative Business offered during the June session. You can choose to only take this course, add an elective as part of the 2-course option in June, or combine with the July session and take 3 or 4 elective or language courses. You can also opt for an 8-week internship with an entrepreneurship-focused placement (see below for further details regarding the internship).

Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. If you choose the 1-course option, you may earn 3 credits (up to 45 contact hours); in the 2-course option, you may earn 6 credits (up to 90 contact hours); in the 3-course option, you may earn 9 credits (up to 135 contact hours); in the 4-course option, you may earn 12 credits (up to 180 contact hours).

Typically, classes meet daily, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.

The internship option includes an academic seminar and an internship placement. The internship seminar meets for 22 contact hours and you'll spend 120 hours at your internship placement over 8 weeks. Together, your seminar and internship placement are worth 3 credits. Your internship placement hours may vary depending on industry standards for your career field and will be determined after you arrive.

We strongly recommended that you apply as soon as possible. Internship positions are selective; students who demonstrate both professionalism and commitment throughout the process are most successful in securing placements.

The placement process involves three video interviews: a screening interview with your Internship Specialist, a job placement interview with your on-site internship coordinator, and a final interview with your host site supervisor. The host site retains the final decision regarding placements, so it’s important that your interviews reflect your maturity, adaptability, curiosity, and commitment to both your career interests and the host organization. Upon successfully completing your on-site placement coordinator interview, CEA guarantees you a placement based on the personal, professional, and cross-cultural goals reflected in your interview. All placements will be secured two weeks prior to arrival.

Upon placement, you'll automatically be enrolled in your internship course as well as the Entrepreneurship course. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

If you have confirmed an internship placement in Barcelona through independent contacts, we can also support you in securing important logistics such as visas, housing, and credit. Contact a CEA admissions counselor for more details.
