As the capital city, it’s also the financial, industrial and commercial hub of Argentina, and home to more than 10 million residents. As an Engineering major, you’ll find this cosmopolitan city the ideal place to learn how to apply engineering solutions in a global context. The Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA) is a private university in Argentina that specializes in Engineering, Technology & Management. ITBA is known for its academic rigor and considered one of the best technological universities in Latin America and is a member of the Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE3). Students have access to ITBA courses during the summer term.

The CEA CAPA Buenos Aires Center turns the city into your classroom. Choose courses in liberal arts, social sciences, and international business, all taught in English and Spanish, and designed to take advantage of the city’s rich history, culture, and political environment. Enjoy courses that best meet your academic, personal, and career interests as you explore all the city offers.

When you study abroad in Buenos Aires, you can choose CEA CAPA housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA CAPA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.

Program Structure

Choose between the ITBA only option and CEA CAPA & ITBA Hybrid option:
- In the ITBA only option you'll enroll in one engineering/physics course.
- In the CEA CAPA & ITBA Hybrid option you'll enroll in 1 ITBA engineering/physics course and 1 CEA CAPA elective course.

Engineering course meets for 75 contact hours/5 credits and elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn up to a total of 8 credits (up to 120 contact hours).

Classes meet 2-4 days per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.

Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

A World Heritage Site, Colonia was founded by the Portuguese in 1680. The historic quarter still captures the look and feel of the colonial era in Latin America. You’ll travel by ferry across the River Plate from Buenos Aires to explore this charming town’s cobbled streets leading to old lighthouses, inns, restaurants, and its original bullfighting ring. You’ll also enjoy a traditional lunch during your time in Uruguay.

Iguazú Falls

Iguazú Falls

Spanning three countries, Iguazu Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a popular destination. Thousands travel to Iguazu Falls every year to marvel at the Garganta del Diablo, a U-shaped cascade that is 269 feet tall and almost 2,300 feet long. You'll enjoy an overnight trip and a full-day excursion to Iguazu National Park.

Polo Day

Polo Day

Attend a polo match and learn about one of Argentina’s most popular sports. You’ll have the opportunity to sit in the stadium and join fans as they cheer (elegantly) for their favorite team. Availability of this excursion depends on polo matches schedule and location.

Tigre

Tigre

One of the world’s largest deltas, this popular riverside retreat just north of Buenos Aires is a wonderful place to get away from the bustling city. Indulge in a traditional lunch, relax on a ferry tour, and browse local artisans’ handmade crafts at the Puerto de Frutos open air market.
