DESCRIPTION
This course provides students with an overview of British literature, from Old English poetry to the present day. Given the breadth of the subject, the course will focus on significant turning points in British literary history and canonical texts that have become key to British culture. Taking a culture studies approach, these works will be contextualized within contemporary historical, political, and material realities. These will be complemented by close reading of chosen passages in order to better understand and appreciate the texts under discussion.
