DESCRIPTION
This unit examines transport issues for planning students. It focuses on the importance of modes of transport for patterns of land-use and the construction of sustainable futures. It also examines how issues of power and equality underpin mobility: who can move, how and in what ways. The aim of this unit is to enable students to engage with and understand current transport issues, particularly reducing the need to travel and the interactions between transport, land use and sustainability. This understanding will be set in the context of recent trends and prospects for transport in the UK. The unit also aims to introduce students to more recent writing on ?mobilities? in order to give a students a critical perspective on the processes that underpin movement in society and the varied effects this has in human subjects and bodies.
