While our spring students are preparing to go abroad in the coming months, it’s time to start thinking about summer! Many students are already beginning to consider their summer plans. And, to help with their decision-making process, CEA has new courses and program offerings so students can tailor their experience abroad to their interests and goals.
San José, Costa Rica
In conjunction with our partner, Veritas University, CEA has a new June option so students can take advantage of the Pura Vida lifestyle. In addition to Spanish language courses, elective courses taught in English are now available in subject areas such as communication, economics, environmental science, and political science.
Students seeking an introduction to Italian heritage and contemporary society will find the city of Florence brought to life in the new Art, Culture, and Business in Italy program. This July program enables students to earn 3-6 credits in courses such as Beginning Italian Language, Sustainable Tourism, and The Great Masters: Leonardo, Michelangelo & Raphael. As with any CEA course, students can expect their studies to take them outside of the classroom. For example, students in The Great Masters course will find themselves transported into a Renaissance living quarters when they visit Casa Buonarroti, the home which Michelangelo built for his family.
Business majors will find plenty to choose from this summer to stay on track for graduation. In addition to our ever-popular International Marketing and International Business courses, the CEA Barcelona Center will feature two new Finance courses: Investments and International Finance. For those looking to study outside of Spain, the CEA Paris Center will also offer International Marketing. For sport enthusiasts, the CEA Buenos Aires Center is the place to be! With courses such as Event Management and Sport Marketing, students will gain practical business skills as they experience community, regional, and national sporting events along with locals.
Typically, many engineering majors look to take general education courses abroad over the summer. CEA is changing how engineering majors approach study abroad by offering foundational courses required for many of these majors over an extended 6-week period. The CEA Paris Center is pleased to offer a Statics course and two math courses: Differential Equations and Calculus III. The CEA Rome Center offers Principles of Engineering Materials and Thermodynamics. Students needing 6 credits can round out their schedules with an elective course in either city.
We invite you to learn more about these new courses and programs, as well as other summer program options on the CEA website. There’s also plenty of time for students to apply for summer scholarships.
We are excited to announce our upcoming 2018 Familiarization Trips in Italy, Spain, and England. Join us for the opportunity to discover how we utilize each of these cities as a living classroom and what the CEA student experience onsite is like. During these Familiarization Trips, you will have the opportunity to:
Italy | Rome & Florence | March 11–17 - The cities of Florence and Rome offer opportunities to study the political, artistic, cultural, and business trends of Italy. Through our studies centers in both cities, students have the opportunity to take coursework across a wide array of disciplines that incorporate the cities and the unique and valuable learning opportunities they offer.
Spain | Barcelona | June 10–14 - According to the most recent Open Doors data, Business majors make up 20% of the US Study Abroad population (second highest). At CEA, we’re committed to ensuring these students have coursework and program opportunities available to them across our locations. On this trip, we’ll highlight the programs available at our CEA Study Center and our partner programs, as well.
England | London | September 30–October 4 – At our CEA Study Center in London, students find a wide range of course and program options, including internships, in one of the world’s most culturally diverse cities. Our staff brings a variety of global experience and cultural adjustment skills to help students adapt to their new environment and maximize both in-class and out-of-class opportunities for the development of intercultural competencies.

We know that budgets can be tight, and we want to make this workshop as accessible as possible, to give everyone an opportunity for professional growth and to learn more about CEA. As such, we will cover the cost of lodging for three nights (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), most meals, flights, transportation, and social activities. And since we’re all about experiential learning, we’ll also have a group outing in Phoenix to let you experience some of our local culture.
Previous attendee Michael Saenz of the University of Tennessee describes how he benefited from a CEA advising workshop:
Overall, I feel the workshop was very beneficial, personally and professionally. I can’t thank the CEA staff enough for their genuine hospitality and generosity during our time in Phoenix. These workshops are always a gentle reminder of why I love international education. They give us an opportunity to come together to share best practices and grow professionally.
CEA was wonderful to work with…Their support and knowledge was constant through the planning and execution.
