NAFSA 2018 Annual Conference & Expo Highlights

New Academic Partners

We’re pleased to announce a new partnership with ESSCA Ecole de Management in Paris, France. ESSCA is a Grand Ecole business school with triple accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. It hosts a “business incubator” on campus to nurture students who are aspiring entrepreneurs.

CEA has two new partners in Chile: Viña del Mar’s Universidad Adolfo Ibañez (UAI) and Valparaíso’s Pontifica Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV). UAI holds triple accreditation via AMBA, AACSB, and EQUIS and as of 2016, is considered the #2 business school in Latin America. PUCV, a private institution ranked in the top 30 Latin American universities, has the most accredited university programs in Chile and draws more than 800 foreign students each year.

Program Additions and Expansions

CEA has added and expanded several programs in the last year, seeking to help domestic university partners expand their presence abroad and support students’ progress toward matriculation.

New programs in Prague include:

  • International Business
  • Communication & Journalism
  • International Relations & Political Science
  • Humanities & Social Sciences

All four of these programs are offered through Anglo-American University, an institution that offers small, interactive classes taught in English by international faculty. Our Prague programs showcase the academic strengths of AAU, including the breadth of its curriculum.

New programs in Buenos Aires:

  • Global Health - focuses on community engagement, public health organizations, and globalization in the health industry; approaches Spanish language and Argentine culture through environmental health and community
  • Sport Management - ideal for students looking to gain practical business skills in event management and sport marketing as well as study the significance of sports in Argentina culture

New program in Seville:

  • Exercise & Sports Science - geared toward students in a variety of majors including Exercise & Sport Science, Nutrition, Psychology, and Sport Management

In Barcelona, we launched a new Summer program called Entrepreneurship and Innovation, founded on the core course “Entrepreneurship: the Art of Creative Business.” Students have the option of adding an eight-week internship with an entrepreneurship-focused placement to this program. Entrepreneurship and Innovation was inspired by the booming start-up scene in Barcelona and takes advantage of the city’s dynamic business environment to educate students and interns.

In response to the high demand of our university partners in the U.S., CEA developed new courses for our Engineering programs in Paris and Rome and added Engineering programs in London and Dublin. We also recently partnered with Universidad Carlos III de Madrid to create an Engineering program in Madrid, Spain. CEA is committed to making study abroad possible for STEM students, and we will continue to develop and refine our program and course offerings for them in 2018.

Internships

In 2017, CEA unveiled the internships abroad initiative, which has since flourished and grown from two original locations to nine:

  • Dublin
  • Prague
  • London
  • Seville
  • Barcelona
  • Paris
  • Rome
  • Florence
  • Buenos Aires

We've enhanced our internship program orientation by including a pre-departure email series and online interactive orientation, supplemented with an onsite orientation that builds on the pre-departure steps. The complete orientation process asks students to reflect on how they can make the most out of their internship abroad experience.

CEA’s internship webinar series first aired in November 2017 as a three-part informative presentation on what to look for when considering an internship abroad. The webinar series, entitled “Navigating the Maze of International Internships,” explores the following:

  • defining features of "high quality" internship opportunities
  • resources and tools used to give students meaningful internship placements abroad
  • student qualities signifying readiness for the international internship challenge

Because of enthusiastic demand, CEA now offers full-time Summer internships in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Dublin, London, Paris, Prague, Rome, and Seville. Full-time interns complete 30-35 hours a week at their placement organization and enroll in a six-credit weekly seminar.

Student Guide

CEA started 2018 with the premiere of a new print piece for students, which provides an overview of the study and internship abroad programs we offer. The guide includes spotlights on all twenty-one of our program locations.

Advisory Board

CEA now has a fully-seated advisory board. All members hold post-graduate degrees and have professional backgrounds in higher education.
