About the City

Bursting with color and old-world charm thanks to its brightly painted buildings, Valparaiso is the second largest metropolitan area in the country. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known as the cultural capital of Chile, the city is spontaneous, cheerful, and just a little bit gritty: a perfect introduction to Latin life. Visit La Sebastiana, the home-turned-museum of great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. Improve your Spanish language skills through courses at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and get a grasp of Latin American culture in Valparaíso, “the jewel of the Pacific.”

About the Country

From the towering Andes in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, Chile’s dramatic landscapes run the gamut, lush vineyards and arid deserts, sunny beaches and green forests. In this long, narrow country — stretching more than 2,670 miles from top to bottom but only 217 miles across — you’ll experience some of Latin America's most diverse ecosystems while engaging with Chile’s rich cultural heritage. Share a cup of tea while practicing your Spanish skills with locals, tour Chile’s legendary vineyards, take a hike on a glacier, and attend class with Chilean students for a truly integrated experience.
