Sierra Sweet, University Relations Events Manager
As the University Relations Events Manager, Sierra is responsible for planning and executing both internal and external events. These events include conferences such as NAFSA and FORUM as well as, Familiarization Trips, Advisory Board meetings, study abroad fairs and more. She also works closely with University Regional Directors to enhance our university relationships.
Sierra studied abroad for the first time between high school and college at an intensive Spanish language school in Mexico. She found that she loved the Spanish language, so pursued her Bachelor of Arts degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, double majoring in Spanish and French. During her time there she had the chance to study abroad at both Universidad San José in Costa Rica and Université François Rabelais in France.
After graduation, Sierra had the opportunity to live and work on a boat in Greece, and in Queenstown, New Zealand before she returned stateside where she worked in higher education for 5 years. During her time in higher education she worked in Student Development where she built a study abroad program for the university, and ran faculty-led trips to Greece.
Sierra’s vision of enhancing opportunities for students to study abroad is based in the knowledge that when we learn and understand each other the world becomes smaller and the prejudices we hold against each other dissipate. As a proponent of this vision, she has lived in 6 countries, been to 24, and dabbles in additional languages such as Greek, Arabic and Italian.
