Yes, You ali-CAN Get Around in Alicante

When students study abroad in Alicante, they’re always amazed — and happy — to discover how easy it is to get around. Not only is the ALC a medium-size city where everything is pretty much within walking distance, but Spain also has one of the best public transportation systems in the world.

(I’m not kidding, it’s really easy to get where you want to be… no car required!)

Here’s how to get around in Alicante.

Bus, Plus

Alicante is the proud home to three bus lines: Red, Blue, and Special. Most of the time, you’ll use the Red lines. They’re all over the city and connect all points into the city center. Each part of the city has its own Red line that leads to the center of town, making it really simple to find your way around.

The Blue lines connect Alicante with all the neighboring villages and other amazing places that you’ll want to visit. Along the coast, you can hop on a Blue line bus to visit coastal destinations like the resort town of El Campello or the beaches of San Juan and Albufera. The Blue line also connects to San Vicente del Raspeig (where the University of Alicante is located) and Mutxamel.

If you need to go to the airport or further, like Valencia, Barcelona, or Granada, there’s a special line that’ll get you there.

Jump on the TRAM

As amazing as the city of Alicante is, the province of Alicante has much offer, too — and the train is the way to get there. In fact, some of the most charming spots on the Costa Blanca are easiest to reach by train. Known as TRAM, this convenient, cheap option is perfect if you want to take a day trip!

Bonus: the rail runs along the coast, so you’ll enjoy gorgeous ocean views along the way to your destination. And for those who are not very fond of buses, there’s a new TRAM line that connects directly with the University of Alicante.
