Have you ever gone somewhere and wondered what history could have occurred on the same steps you were walking on? For some reason, cobblestone streets always seem to have that wistful effect on me. There is this one perched village, also one of the oldest medieval towns in the south of France, known as St. Paul de Vence. It just so happens to be one of those captivating old towns that makes you wonder how it got to be so mystical. This town has been known for its 19th century history and all the famous artists that have resided there. Saint Paul de Vence works hard to preserve its cultural importance of modern art within the village. As you walk down, you will discover that the streets are still filled with endless galleries and showrooms from a wide array of artists from all over the world. And of course, I couldn’t leave without buying a poster myself.

Not only do they have paintings and posters, but also hidden are quite a few gems and jewelry shops with handmade accessories. This treasure has also become increasingly famous among tourists, and fortunately, it’s not too far a ride from Nice. People from all over come not only for the art, but to view the beautiful fornication and high castle walls this village has been built on. The walls of the city date all the way back to the French King Francis I of the 16th century, and as you can see, are still very well preserved. Vineyards surround the village of Saint Paul, and in fairly close proximity is the water, making it a breathtaking viewpoint for sunsets. The hike may be a bit exhausting, especially on a hot day, but the town is well worth it. If you’re looking to escape the glamour and want to learn a little history while enjoying some rustic views, definitely make your way over to one of the best kept secrets on the Riviera.
