Port Elizabeth Excursions

One of the benefits of studying abroad is the ability to venture outside your host city and explore the surrounding area. Excursions are offered for all semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered two to three excursions and summer students are typically offered one to two excursions. You will receive a calendar of the specific CEA excursions offered for your program during orientation. To give you an idea of the possibilities, we have collected typical experiences from some of the day trips and weekend tours we may offer.

Cape Town

Explore the riches of South Africa on this five day trip to the Cape of Good Hope. You will see breathtaking natural views while participating in activities such as the drive along Chapman’s Peak, a tour of the Cango Caves and a hike to the top of Table Mountain. You will encounter exotic wildlife at an Ostrich farm, endangered African Penguin colony, and if you are feeling brave, you may even get a chance to cage dive with Great White Sharks. Apart from all the adventure, you will also get a unique opportunity to experience the culture and history of South Africa, exploring Cape Town with the relics of its divisive past. Visit Robben Island, prison and home of President Nelson Mandela for 17 years during the years of Apartheid, and explore the living history, culture, and natural beauty of South Africa.

Tsitsikamma Falls Adventures

Tap into your adventurer spirit and spend an action-packed weekend full of excitement at Tsitsikamma Falls Adventure Park. You will have opportunities to go over beautiful waterfalls on a zipline tour, go bungee jumping from Bloukranz Bridge, battle your friends in a paint ball fight and kick up some serious dust on quad bikes. After all the excitement, you will enjoy quality time with your friends over a braai accompanied by a South African drumming session. Time and energy permitting, you may also stop at Monkeyland, the world’s first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary or the neighboring Bird of Eden park with a large collection of free-flight African birds and miniature monkeys.

Addo Elephant Park

Take advantage of this once in a life-time opportunity to observe South Africa’s amazing biodiversity and some of its Big Five inhabitants, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, lions and leopards. At Addo, dedicated to the preservation of the Eastern Cape Elephant and the Cape Buffalo, you will have the chance to see these and other park inhabitants roaming in their natural habitat by participating in a game drive led by knowledgeable guides in open-top land rovers or trucks or by going horseback riding or hiking on trails leading through the park. This excursion will definitely be worth writing a postcard home about!

Frontier Tour

Take part in a unique trip to experience true Afrikaner farm life on a settlement of cattle farms located in the Adelaide area of South Africa’s Eastern Cape. On your trip to the farming town you will stop in Grahamstown where you will have a chance to visit the International Library of African Music and the African Musical Instrument Factory or simply just discover this beautiful city. During your stay at local farm houses, you will also go hiking and participate in a picnic and traditional South African braai, among other fun activities.
