About the Program
As China’s largest, most modernized city, Shanghai exemplifies globalization on every street corner, in neighborhood pockets, and in the city’s iconic skyline. Access to resources, food security, social mobility, financial futures, global trade, and environmental protection are just a few of the global issues that Shanghai residents face every day. In this program, you'll explore historical, artistic, philosophical, and critical approaches to major topics in global studies, asking questions such as: What influences the terms and outcomes of cultural encounters? How are values and beliefs defined and transformed? What can translation and literature teach us about global studies?

Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take a language level placement exam. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for China. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
