About the Program
Through a combo of Spanish language instruction and focused courses in either Spanish or English, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of Latin American culture, history, economics, and politics. Semester students may choose an Early Start option to jump-start their Spanish language proficiency before the session begins. The semester program is designed for students at all Spanish levels, while the summer program is designed for students at high-intermediate and above Spanish level.

Since its founding in 1964, the Universidad de Belgrano (UB) has grown into one of Argentina's leading higher education institutions. This private university offers a range of courses to a culturally diverse population of more than 14,500 students. More than 900 international students participate in exchange programs through the Universidad de Belgrano each year.
Located in a distinguished residential area of the city of Buenos Aires, UB features modern facilities, computer labs, libraries, and cultural, artistic and athletic activities to complement academics.
UB faculty instruct through the Programa de Estudios Argentinos y Latinoamericanos and other UB departments. CEA CAPA students have access to the same university facilities as Argentine students, allowing you to fully appreciate UB student life. By sharing the university campus with local and other international students, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with your peers.
Credit Transfer Information
Universidad de Belgrano utilizes a 45-minute contact hour whereas the United States higher education system utilizes a 50-minute contact hour. All Universidad de Belgrano courses represent the 45 contact hour amount and an estimated US credit calculation based on the contact hours. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Transcript Information
Students receive a transcript from Universidad de Belgrano upon successful completion of the program. Transcript includes the number of hours per week and the weeks in the semester so US colleges/universities may calculate the appropriate number of US credits they choose to award their students.
Accreditation
The Universidad de Belgrano is recognized by the Argentine Ministry of Public Education as a degree-granting institution of higher learning.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
- Faculty from Universidad de Belgrano teach your language courses and electives.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Argentina may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- Class size ranges between 10 and 15 students for language courses and between 10 and 40 students for electives.
- You may attend class with international students from the U.S., Europe, Canada, and other parts of the world.

Program Structure & Courses
Enroll in 4-5 Latin American studies courses. Language and elective courses meet for 30-90 contact hours/2-5 credits. Most courses are 60 contact hours/3 credits. If you choose the Early Start option, you’ll enroll in a language course that meets for 120 contact hours/6 credits. You may earn 12-15 credits (up to 300 contact hours); if you choose the Early Start option, you may earn 18-21 credits (up to 420 contact hours).
The University of Belgrano utilizes a 45-minute contact hour whereas the United States higher education system utilizes a 50-minute contact hour. All University of Belgrano courses represent the 45 contact hour amount and an estimated US credit calculation based on the contact hours. Each University of Belgrano transcript will include the number of hours per week and the weeks in the semester, so US universities may calculate the appropriate number of US credits for students.
Classes meet for 4 hours per week on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Early Start language classes meet Monday-Friday for 25 hours per week. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take a language placement exam. Final course registration takes place on-site. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Argentina. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

All CEA CAPA students studying in Buenos Aires have the option of living in apartments while abroad. Generally located in downtown Palermo or Belgrano, or Recoleta/Barrio Norte neighborhoods these apartments cater to independent, do-it-yourself students who want to experience Buenos Aires as a local apartment-dweller would. Apartments vary in age, décor and size, from studio apartments to two bedrooms. So whip up some homemade empanadas in your fully equipped kitchen, crack open your window, and watch the Argentine world unfold before your eyes.

Experience Buenos Aires’ vibrant culture while living in a homestay. CEA CAPA homestays usually have one host mom - or a couple - who loves to have international students around. For the students who want to live life abroad in a local and international environment - usually with other students - the homestay is great, because it can give you the locals' insight into the city.

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
