About the Program

The Business Consulting Course with associated experiential learning equips you to work as a practitioner in a real-world enterprise. Be guided through a professional consulting project and, as part of a team, research a business challenge, concern, or deficiency, define the problem, then pitch your solution. In this Business Consulting project with a Digital Health focus, each group of students will apply its business, financial, marketing, communication, PR, and teamwork skills to have a meaningful impact on a project that generates innovation in healthcare through information technology.

In 2022, the digital health market was valued at around $210 billion globally, and all forecasts predict a substantial growth in the following years. Barcelona is the perfect location to immerse yourself in this industry, as it is home to the Barcelona Health Hub, a growing digital health ecosystem where hundreds of public and private organizations design digital health products and services that are commercialized globally. The Digital Health stream provides students with the structure and opportunity to address business challenges in a competitive and emerging industry and to be part of the solution. Learn about the challenges encountered by digital health companies, while being part of a team that works with a local enterprise aiming to enter a global market. Put your consulting skills into practice in this emerging field, no matter your degree background, and make a tangible difference to business outcomes.

Located on the Plaza Catalunya in the heart of the city, the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center offers courses in a range of subjects, taught in English and Spanish. Learning takes place both in and out of the classroom, with instructors taking full advantage of Barcelona’s many notable sites and attractions.

When you study abroad in Barcelona, you can choose CEA CAPA housing or arrange your own independent housing. CEA CAPA housing assignments are based on availability and confirmation date; we make every effort to match your housing requests, but we can’t guarantee housing preferences.

Program Structure

The required Business Consulting course is comprised of both an academic course and a locally based business consulting project that will require you to meet with clients and conduct group work outside of class. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about your assigned company through in-person or virtual meetings and by visiting their facilities/operations, conducting market research, creating relationships, ideating proposals and solutions, all of which will culminate in a consulting proposal.

In addition to your 3-credit business consulting course and project, you will choose 1 CEA CAPA Core course and 2-3 additional CEA CAPA course to take from the catalog of course options available to you. This provides you with the opportunity to gain professional experience while also making progress toward your degree requirements and engaging in classes that afford a richer cultural experience.

Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Elective courses meet 2 times per week, Monday-Thursday.  Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays. Overall, students may earn 12-15 credits.

Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take an online language placement exam (if enrolling in a language course). You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. If you choose to take a Spanish language or elective course, to ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
