    Scholarships with Distinction

Top applicants to CEA Diversity, Academic Merit, Global Career, and Global Education Scholarships receive an additional $1,000 award. No extra application is required; but recipients must submit a one-page essay about their experience abroad after their program ends.

    Academic Affiliate Scholarship

Students at CEA Academic Affiliate schools who apply for Academic Merit, Global Education, Financial Need, or Diversity Scholarships are automatically considered for an additional affiliate scholarship. Awards vary by term. Is your school a CEA Academic Affiliate?

    Application Process

Once students are accepted into a CEA program, they may apply for scholarships online through their MyCEA Account. We review scholarships on a rolling basis and, in most cases, notify applicants of their award status within 45 days of submission.

    Financial Aid

As CEA is not a Title IV institution, your institution must process all federal student financial aid. We have our own Consortium Agreement or we can sign your version of a similar document in order to help your students use federal student financial aid to fund their study abroad experience.

    Grants, Vouchers, and Offers

CEA offers students who attend CEA Academic Affiliates travel grants, to appear on the student's billing account as follows:

    • $500 per student, for academic year programs
    • $250 per student, for semester or trimester programs
    • $100 per student, per session, for short term and summer programs

CEA sometimes offers a limited number of grants to non-affiliate schools for specific programs, destinations and terms. Please contact your Regional Consultant for more information.

    Payment Plans

CEA offers an interest-free payment plan that allows students to choose payment amounts and due dates—monthly, bi-weekly, weekly—that meet their budget needs. Students can use this flexible plan on its own or combine it with other financial aid.
Students may contact our Student Accounts Team at 800.266.4441 ext. 1807 to set up a payment plan.

    Billing

To ease your administrative burden, CEA offers your choice of individual or direct billing.

    Individual Student Billing

CEA manages the payment process, eliminating the hassle of collecting and processing payments, charging student accounts, and tracking payments. Charges, deadlines, and payments are handled through students' MyCEA Accounts. Individual student billing may also be used to process students' financial aid.

    Direct Billing

Direct billing creates a link between the student and CEA, creating a consistent billing entity in which you bill your students directly and pay all or part of the program fees. When processing financial aid, disbursements go immediately to CEA rather than to students, saving time and administrative effort. In some cases, direct billing is the only way for students to secure institutional scholarships for studying abroad. Direct billing offers accountability, making internal, institutional contact obligatory for students and ensuring application of financial aid and proper transfer of academic credits.

    CEASecure

CEASecure™ is an optional refund plan that allows students to withdraw from their CEA program for any covered reason up to one calendar week before the program's start date. CEASecure™ provides refunds for the following covered reasons:
    • Medical: If a student or an immediate family member becomes seriously ill, is seriously injured in an accident, or dies.
    • Terrorist attack: If the U.S. Department of State determines that there has been a terrorist attack against U.S. interests in the host country and issues an official Travel Warning stating that Americans should not travel to that country.
    • Job loss: If a student's parent or legal guardian is laid off from work or loses their job as a result of a general staff reduction or position elimination.
    • Total destruction of student's primary residence: If the student's primary place of residence is destroyed by a natural disaster, fire, or explosion.
What is refundable prior to departure? A refund includes all program fees paid to CEA, less the application fee, non-refundable program confirmation fee, late fees, and the cost of the CEASecure™ plan.
Are students eligible for any kind of refund after their program starts? CEASecure™ covers trip interruption refunds after programs start under the following conditions:
    • Medical: If a student or an immediate family member becomes seriously ill, is seriously injured in an accident, or dies.
    • Terrorist attack: If the U.S. Department of State determines that there has been a terrorist attack against U.S. interests within the host country of a student's program site, and issues an official Travel Warning stating that Americans should not travel to that country.
    • Failure to obtain a student visa: If an official student visa was not issued and all documented embassy procedures were properly followed according to consulate requirements and student has traveled to their CEA program site on a tourist visa with plans to obtain the required visa but is denied the visa and must leave the country before completing the program.
How are trip interruption refunds determined? Refunds are pro-rated based on how far along student is in their program when a covered condition takes place. The application fee, non-refundable confirmation fee, late fees, and the cost of CEASecure™ are not refundable. The aggregate amount of refunds for one incident cannot exceed $1 million.
    How much does CEASecure cost?
    • $475 for semester and trimester programs
    • $275 for summer and short term programs
    • $1,000 for academic year programs
How do students enroll in CEASecure? Students may call 1.800.266.4441 for details, or complete and sign an enrollment form in their MyCEA Account. Students who do not choose to purchase CEASecure™ fall under the CEA Standard Refund Policy, which provides refunds depending on the withdrawal date's proximity to the program start date. Under the Standard Refund Policy, no refunds are granted after the program withdrawal date and no refunds are possible after the program start date.
